Patrick, the story of the Cuban rock band Sweet Lizzy Project is phenomenal and movie worthy. As a 5 member band, they formed in Cuba 11 years ago. Raul Malo was in Havana with a documentary crew and discovered them. He signed them! They fled Cuba, painfully leaving friends and family behind to come to the US. They are so grateful for the opportunity to be in America that in 2023 they became US citizens! They have 3 albums- Heaven (2015), Technicolor (2020), double album Pirate Radio also in Spanish Radio Pirata (2022), and a 4 song EP titled SLP (2024). They have toured with Heart and Joan Jett and have opened for The Mavericks, Buckcherry, and several others. It would be an honor for you to learn about them and share their story. Their website is sweetlizzyproject.com and they're on TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, Youtube, X, Spotify, and AppleMusic.

Your theme based stories sound interesting. SLP may fit into that theme. They were building momentum by playing arenas opening for Heart and Joan Jett when covid stopped the world. All performances were canceled. There they were, Cubans newly relocated to the US, trying to figure out how to live in this completely new world, finally under management, on tour, and in the process of making their 2nd album Technicolor. They decided to all move into a small apartment together for safety reasons, economic reasons, and to finish their album. When Technicolor was released in 2020, it was almost like a huge void. They couldn't make the rounds to promote the new album. Any interviews they had were done via zoom. It was a dark time for so many people, including SLP. They thought seriously about giving up. They knew they had to find a way to get to people inside their homes if they were going to survive as a band. The solution...YouTube and TikTok! On March 15, 2020 they began going live with their SQS (Sweet Quarantine Sessions) lives. Then on March 24th they began posting those sessions on TikTok. Over time they accumulated enough popular covers to release an album in March 2023 called SQS Vol 1. I came across them on my TikTok feed about that time and have been obsessed with them ever since. In the year+ they've been on TikTok, they've gained 192k followers and approximately 250 subscribers. Finally, a shift in momentum and a reason to keep going. They are currently on tour and in April released an EP of 4 songs. The lyrics of each song tell the story of what they've been through emotionally. The lyrics are gripping. The sound is that of angst and anger. Lisset Diaz, front woman for SLP, is a beautiful blend of Hayley Williams, Lizzy Hale, and Alanis Morissette. I truly hope you consider Sweet Lizzy Project for your theme based project. Thank you.
