Introducing... the Albums of 9/11

I’m starting a new series this week and - even after spending the last couple weeks researching, recording, and editing - I’m still not sure if it’s a good idea. Is there something inherently tasteless about doing a series on 9/11 that focuses on the albums that were released that day? I went back and forth… but ultimately I thought it was worth doing. One of the overarching themes of my channel is the power and importance of music. The capacity for music to get us through our darkest times. And what better illustration of that could there be than looking at the albums that the country was listening to while going through a national period of mourning.

With the 24th anniversary of September 11 this week, I will be doing a deep dive on 5 albums that were released that day. Jay-Z’s triumph The Blueprint; Mariah Carey’s ahead of it’s time flop Glitter; Nickelback’s breakthrough Silver Side Up; the Moldy Peaches anti-folk classic debut; and Bob Dylan’s immortal Love and Theft. I think you will find they all have something interesting to say about what the music world was like in 2001, where it was headed, and the impact that 9/11 had on music history.

I hope you enjoy this introductory video, the first episode will be out tomorrow. Thanks for watching.
